Bask is designed to be radically private. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Everything the app needs in order to work is processed and stored on your device.

Summary

What data Bask uses, and where it stays

Location. With your permission (“While Using the App”), Bask uses your location to fetch the local UV index and calculate your best tanning window. Your coordinates are sent only to Apple’s WeatherKit service in order to retrieve weather data for that area. They are not stored on any server we control and are not used to identify or track you. You can use Bask in search-only mode without granting location access.

Weather data (Apple WeatherKit). Bask retrieves UV index and cloud-cover data from Apple Weather. Apple’s handling of that request is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy. Bask displays the required Apple Weather attribution wherever weather data appears.

Your profile and history. Your skin type, default SPF, unit and notification preferences, saved locations, planned sessions, and tanning-session records are stored locally on your device using Apple’s on-device database (SwiftData). They never leave your device and are not backed up to any Bask server.

Camera, photos, and skin-tone analysis. Bask includes a skin-tone comparison feature that measures your tan over time. If you grant camera or photo-library access, the images you choose are analysed entirely on your device. Photos are never uploaded and never leave your phone. The measurement records Bask keeps (a colour value, a date, a confidence indicator, and a small thumbnail) are stored locally alongside the rest of your data. The component that performs this analysis contains no networking code whatsoever.

Notifications and alarms. If you allow notifications, Bask schedules local notifications on your device: a daily best-window reminder, reminders for sessions you have planned yourself, sunscreen reapply prompts, and UV safety alerts. If you allow alarms, Bask also schedules a system alarm for your safe-time limit so it can reach you when your phone is silenced. Both are created and stored on your device; no notification or alarm content is sent to a server, and you can revoke either permission at any time in iOS Settings.

What we do NOT do

Your control

Children

Bask is a general-audience sun-safety app and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect data from anyone, because it does not collect data at all.

Medical disclaimer

Bask is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. UV exposure carries risks including skin damage, premature ageing, and skin cancer. Consult a dermatologist before making sun-exposure decisions, especially if you have a history of skin conditions.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top and post the revised policy at this URL.
